Privacy Policy
This policy describes what information FreeBookConvert ("we", "our", "the Service") collects when you use the website at freebookconvert.com, how it is used, and the rights you have over it.
Last updated: 2026-05-26. Effective date: 2026-05-26.
1. The short version
The files you drop on this site are never uploaded. Every conversion happens inside your web browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. We have no servers that touch the contents of your files, and we have no way to recover, restore, or delete a file you converted — because we never received it.
We do collect a small amount of standard web-server and analytics data, described in detail below, and we display ads served by Google AdSense, which may use cookies. You can opt out of personalized advertising at any time.
2. Who runs this site (data controller)
FreeBookConvert is operated by Andrew Nakas, an independent developer. For privacy questions, data-access requests, deletion requests, or anything else covered by this policy, contact contact@freebookconvert.com. Replies typically arrive within seven days.
3. What we do not collect
- The files you convert. They are read into your browser's memory, processed locally, and written back to your downloads. They never leave your device. You can verify this by disconnecting from the network after a converter page loads — conversions still complete.
- The contents of your files. Filenames, the words inside an EPUB, the pixels of a HEIC photo, the text in an OCR'd PDF — none of it is transmitted to us.
- Account information. The site has no signup, no login, no user accounts, and no associated databases of users.
- Payment information. The service is free. We do not process payments and have no payment data.
4. What we do collect
Server access logs. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare Pages) records standard HTTP request data for every page load: IP address, user agent string, timestamp, the URL requested, and the referring URL. This data is used to operate the service, detect abuse, and diagnose problems. It is retained by Cloudflare per their data retention policy.
Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-4LZC9S4SCK) to understand which converters are most useful and where users encounter errors. Google Analytics collects anonymized usage data: pages viewed, approximate location (country and region, derived from IP), device type, browser, and time on page. IP addresses are truncated by Google before storage. Analytics data is retained for 14 months and is not joined with personal identifiers. We have configured Analytics with IP anonymization enabled and Google signals (cross-device tracking) disabled.
Advertising data. See section 6 below.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
The site uses cookies and similar local-storage mechanisms in three categories:
- Strictly necessary. A small number of first-party cookies set by Cloudflare for security and bot detection. These cannot be disabled without breaking the site.
- Analytics. Google Analytics sets a
_gaidentifier and per-property_ga_*cookies. These distinguish unique visitors anonymously across sessions. Retention is 24 months. - Advertising. Google AdSense and its partners set cookies described in section 6.
You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings. Doing so will not affect the file-conversion functionality of the site, which uses no persistent storage.
6. Advertising (Google AdSense)
This site is supported by display advertising served by Google AdSense, our advertising partner. Google AdSense and its certified partners may use cookies and similar technologies to:
- Serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Measure ad performance (impressions, clicks, conversions).
- Detect ad fraud and invalid traffic.
Google uses the DoubleClick DART cookie and similar identifiers to enable this. The list of Google's advertising and analytics products and how they handle data is documented at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. The full list of Google's certified ad partners is at support.google.com/admanager/answer/9012903.
You can manage or opt out of personalized advertising at any time:
- Google's ad personalization settings: adssettings.google.com
- The industry-wide opt-out (US): aboutads.info/choices
- The industry-wide opt-out (EU): youronlinechoices.eu
Opting out turns off personalized ads but does not remove ads entirely. You will still see contextual (non-personalized) ads.
7. Third-party libraries and CDNs
Several converter pages load JavaScript libraries from public content delivery networks (jsDelivr, unpkg, cdnjs). These CDNs may log standard HTTP request data (IP, user agent, timestamp) when your browser fetches a library file. They do not receive the contents of your files, only the request for the library. We pin specific library versions and use Subresource Integrity hashes so the code cannot be silently tampered with.
8. Your rights under GDPR (EEA/UK)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the General Data Protection Regulation gives you rights over the limited personal data we process (primarily IP addresses in server logs and analytics identifiers):
- Access: request a copy of any personal data we hold relating to you.
- Rectification: request correction of inaccurate data.
- Erasure: request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
- Restriction: request that we restrict processing.
- Objection: object to processing based on legitimate interests, including analytics and advertising.
- Portability: receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Withdraw consent: withdraw any consent you have given.
- Complaint: lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
To exercise any of these rights, email contact@freebookconvert.com. Because we hold so little personal data, most requests resolve quickly. Our lawful bases for processing are legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, analytics in aggregate) and consent (for personalized advertising, where applicable).
9. Your rights under CCPA/CPRA (California)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act and California Privacy Rights Act give you the right to:
- Know what categories of personal information are collected.
- Know whether your information is sold or shared, and to whom.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information.
- Request deletion of personal information.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Be free from retaliation for exercising any of these rights.
FreeBookConvert does not sell personal information for money. Under the broader CPRA definition of "sharing," the use of advertising cookies by Google AdSense to deliver targeted advertising may constitute sharing. You can opt out using the links in section 6. To submit a request under California law, email contact@freebookconvert.com with "California Privacy Request" in the subject line.
10. International data transfers
The site is hosted on Cloudflare's global network and uses services provided by Google (Analytics, AdSense). Both providers transfer data internationally, including to the United States. They participate in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and use standard contractual clauses where required to provide an adequate level of protection.
11. Children's privacy
FreeBookConvert is a general-purpose utility intended for an adult audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in jurisdictions where that is the threshold). If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Data retention
Server access logs are retained by Cloudflare per their own policy (typically 30 days for raw logs). Analytics data is retained by Google for 14 months. We do not maintain any user database of our own.
13. Security
The site is served over HTTPS with HSTS enabled. A strict Content Security Policy limits what scripts can run. Subresource Integrity hashes pin third-party libraries. Because we never receive your files, there is no scenario in which a server-side breach exposes them.
14. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date at the top will change with it, and substantive changes will be noted at the top of this page for at least 30 days. Continued use of the site after a change indicates acceptance of the revised policy.
15. Contact
